Should I choose a Single Sheave or Double Sheave M.I. Block?
A: This depends on your Mechanical Advantage needs. A single sheave block is used to change the direction of pull. A double sheave block (or block and tackle system) allows you to reduce the effort required to lift a load—theoretically, a double block can reduce the pulling force needed by over 50%.
Which is better: Hook Type or Eye Type?
-
Hook Type: Offers quick and easy attachment, ideal for temporary rigging where the block needs to be moved frequently.
-
Eye Type: Provides a more permanent and secure connection. It is often used with a shackle for long-term installations where maximum security is required.
Can M.I. Blocks be used in marine or outdoor environments?
A: Yes. While our standard blue-painted blocks are suitable for dry environments, we recommend our Zinc-plated (Galvanized) version for marine, offshore, or high-humidity areas to prevent rust and corrosion.
